“Poetry Films: What? How? Why?” Roundtable discussion with Zata Banks at CYCLOP Festival 2015
I have been invited to participate in a roundtable discussion at the CYCLOP Video Poetry Festival on 21 November 2015 in Kiev (Ukraine) about the past, present and future of poetry films. The panel will also include Thomas Zandegiacomo (Germany), Piotr Bosacki (Poland), Artur Punte (Latvia) and others. The full festival programme is below.

11:00 — 11:50 Videopoetry project «Do Slova» (By the Way). Screenings the works short-listed for the best video accompaniment for poems by Oksana Zabuzhko.

13:00 — 13:50 CYCLOP video poetry contest: shortlisted films of the international selection.
14:00 — 14:50 Videopoetry from Poland. Speaker: Piotr Bosacki – artist, animation director, video-poet (Poznan, Poland)
15:00 — 16:00 Roundtable discussion «Videopoetry, its past and future». What are the ways to combine poetry and film? Poetry Films: What? How? Why? Participants: Thomas Zandegiacomo (Germany), Piotr Bosacki (Poland), Zata Banks (United Kingdom), Artur Punte (Latvia) and others.

20:00 — A project by National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Centre. Screening of the remastered copy of The Man with a Movie Camera (1929, Dzyga Vertov) – one of the most prominent manifestation of avant-garde cinematography and futuristic concept of “an eye as a movie-camera”, and a masterpiece experiment in film editing art. Moderator: Anna Kosenko, film critic at Dovzhenko Centre.

13:00 — 13:50 — Videopoetry from Poltava: a presentation by the #Vstol group. Speaker: Denis Stern, a member of Magnum Opus, one of #Vstol authors (Poltava, Ukraine).
14:00 — 15:30 — ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival (Germany): festival presentation and screenings of best films. Speaker: Thomas Zandegiacomo, Artistic Director at ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival (Berlin, Germany).
16:00 — 16:50 — Orbita Text Group, Latvia. Participants: Artur Punte, Sergej Timofejev, Semjon Hanin, Vladimir Svetlov, Andrej Eigus.
17:00 — 17:50 — The 2nd «Videopoetry Lab». Presentating and discussing films produced in the cource of the project. Team curators: Olesya Morgunets-Isayenko, Ogannes Khachatryan, Sergiy Zherekhov. Viewers choose the best team.
18:00 — 19:00 — Award Ceremony. Screenings of the winners of the 5th International Videopoetry Contest CYCLOP. Selecting the winner of the viewers’ choice.
20:00 — «Rybakylym» multimedia project (poetry + sound + video). Participants: Iryna Shuvalova (reading), Artem Shectovsky (clarinet, bass clarinet), Yurko Yefremov (basee, drymba, electronics), Igor Tsykura (video).
November 21st – 22nd, 2015 – The 5th Videopoetry Festival CYCLOP. Entry fee: 50 uah.
